Modules are iterations of the Memory Bridge curriculum that are designed to help students and persons with dementia form relationships – who we refer to as buddies – through sensory recollection and exploration. Created by the Memory Bridge team and experts in their respective fields, the modules explore relationship building through photography, movement, drumming and touch.
The Photography Module was created in conjunction with Anthony Vizzari, an architect, photographer, and museum curator in Chicago. Students learn how to effectively communicate the significance of the photographic images they capture, while engaging their buddies in conversation about the photographs taken by their buddies.

The Dance Module was created with Kathleen J. Turner, a Julliard-trained dancer who leads community education programs. Students learn the impact of body language and movement on interpersonal communication. As a final project, students create a dance sequence that reflects the emotions expressed by their buddies during previous visits.

The Music Module was created with the help of Heather Davidson, a music therapist who facilitates drum circles for people with Alzheimer’s disease. Students learn about music as a form of self-expression and participate in a variety of community-building activities, including singing and a drum circle.

The Tactile Module would not be possible without the work of Maggie Sherman, an artist who creates and leads a variety of community-building workshops in Burlington, VT. Students learn about the power of touch and create and decorate a molded cast of their buddies’ hands.
